The Centre for Tourism Research and Studies was founded in 2008 with the aim to

  • Enable and strengthen cooperation between students, faculty and industry
  • Increase standards of professionalism in the tourism and hospitality industry of Serbia and the region of Balkans
  • Synchronize activities that are related with academic development of students and institutions they represent
  • Enhance sustainable development and practice management
  • Enhance corporate responsibility within the tourism and hospitality industry in Serbia and the region of Balkans

By 2018 the Center for Tourism Research and Studies will become on of the top leaders in the region of Balkans in the field of student development committed to build strategic and deep relationships, identifying, developing, and mentoring high performers who possess the skill and attitude to make the difference in very dynamic and demanding industry.

The CTRS mission is to assist students to achieve academic and practical excellence. Central to its mission, CTRS's research and development focuses on critical issues in the education of students – future leaders and their placement into key sectors of the tourism, hotel and meetings industry in the region of Balkans. We seek to connect best students to best possible employers in the industry internationally as well as to establish long lasting relationship.

The Center for Tourism Research and Studies comprises 10 sparkling personalities working in Novi Sad and Belgrade. Our backgrounds are as varied as could be but most valuable sparkle is that we are all in love with our industry. We are team of world-class people committed to making a difference in the tourism and hotel industry whilst helping each other to achieve our personal life goals and live in purpose.

 

Advisory board

         
 

In December 2008 the Centre for Tourism Research and Studies has formed an Independent International Advisory Board that consists of seven top professionals. It aims to provide us with independent, impartial and authoritative advice on policies, programs and measures that will improve our understanding of the opportunities for the future growth within the tourism, hotel and meetings industry.

  • Rob Davidson is Conference and Events course leader at the University of Westminster London, UK. Rob also teaches at the CERAM business school in Sophia Antipolis, France.  His field of expertise is business tourism and conference management.
  • Rok Klancnik is director at Slovenia Tourist Office in Brussels, Belgium. Prior to this position Rok served as chief of PR and communications at World Tourism Organization. Rok’s field of expertise is PR and communication.
  • Flo Powel is executive director at the Tourism Society London, UK. Flo’s field of expertise is tourism logistics.
  • Paul Gauger is Director at Visit Britain Americas with the office on New York. His main field of expertise is PR and media relations.
  • Milos Tucakovic is partner and managing director at Stanton Chase Belgrade. Milos is one of the leading experts in the field of human resources and talent recruitment.
  • Rick Taylor is CEO at the Business Tourism Company from South Africa. Rick is Member at 2010 FIFA National Communication Committee. Key areas of expertise are destination management, branding and business tourism.

CTRS is dedicated to excellence and creative communication leading to community building around brands and institutions. Our main objective is to make this industry even more exciting as well as to help young leaders grow within it.

Main activity of CTRS is creating the platform of best young leaders in the tourism, hotel and meetings industry through tailor made Cross Training Management Programs as well as industry cross exposure worldwide.

One segment of our business is destination management as well as conference and event management. Drivers of those segments for us are above mentioned young leaders who create an outstanding events and conferences for our clients. 

     

Student development

     
 

Student development is our main activity. In partnership with Faculties and industry stakeholders, both from private and public sector, we prepare the next generation of students for their successful launch into the industry through providing international work placement for them.

 
 

Recruitment and Retention
Retention is a program implemented by the CTRS to instruct and provide hands-on resources for industry personnel devoted to improving student retention and persistence. Using an evidence-based retention framework developed by CTRS and HMS Belgrade, retention program aims at teaching and guiding key industry stakeholders how to plan, implement, and monitor a wide plan that will curb dropouts and shape talent needed.

 

CTMP - Cross Training Management Program
CTRS offers graduates the opportunity to work for four to six weeks under the guidance of a faculty or research mentor at a participating industry institution. Through this one-on-one collaboration, students gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation in Serbia.
